Despair and dissent

Despair [the complete loss or absence of hope] expresses itself in many ways but suicide must be the ultimate act of despair.

Man Kills Himself Holding 'Tax The 1%' in Front of Capitol—and Nobody Hears About It by Thirty Three and a Third
The exhortation of the unknown man's sign is focused and direct, and frighteningly accurate.

Who is Reinhold Elstner? In memoriam by Paul Eisen
As someone who was driven from his home after the war, I always had one hope, that that which was granted the Israelis after 2,000 years, namely the right to return to "home" would also be granted German expellees. What happened to the promise of self-determination that was promulgated in 1919, when millions of Germans were forced to live under foreign rule?

Both of these men were victims of the political economy in which narratives are controlled through the media-academic complex. The concentration of media ownership is well documented and Daily Pickings often refers to media as a lever of power. As insidious, but less obvious, is the subversion of truth and thought in education, a deliberate policy to brainwash the young with a false perception of history. Norman Dodd explains how rich "charitable" foundations (Ford, Carnegie and Guggenheim) conspired to impose their self-serving narrative of history, both domestically and overseas.

There is growing awareness that false narratives belie the real motivation for wars and so called free trade agreements such as NAFTA, CETA, TiSA, TTIP and TPP - aka. weapons of wealth extraction and oppression. The will of the Structural Elite can be thwarted by united determination, as the Bolivian people showed in rising up against Bechtel in the Cochabamba Water Revolt.

The Case that Blew the Lid Off the World Bank’s Secret Courts Jim Shultz
With two historic global trade deals almost complete, here's how Bolivian protesters and global activists exposed the dark side of global trade pacts and paved the way for the battles to come. It's time we end the corporate power play against our basic democracy.

Wider understanding of who rules and how will create the necessary united will for global change.
